My Rights...
Is it apparent to all that we ,meaning Americans, have accepted a role of servitude in respect to our civil and economic liberties? Possibly I am overly sensitive, being a Libertarian and all, but I would truly appreciate someone explaining to me a justification for Obamacare, NDAA and the countless other pieces of legislation that presume I have decided the government should be accountable for my safety and welfare.
I identify with fellow freedom lovers on most issues but forcing my economic decisions and violating civil liberties sends us all on a slippery ride that demands more than hot air discussions. When the leftist band of twits are forced to spend their OWN money on benefits they do not desire or have their rights invaded the kumbaya tunes they sing will become dirge-like.
My interpretation of the constitution is very simple. Since nothing in it is gray, the black and white of the words are not vulnerable to much debate without a serious, reaching twist of rather narrow definitions. Since I have decided not to twist these words to suit some alternate agenda the document itself is not confusing. In fact, the clarity is rather exemplary. Almost, as if the smartest guys of that generation sat around for a month or two and hammered it out.
I cannot stand for any organization or government deciding what is right for me. My personal safety, religious sentiments and economic choices are not the responsibility of anyone but myself. Under no circumstances do I pass permission to anyone to decide these for me. The converse is also true. The powers that be do not owe me anything.
Income taxes are fair. I break from traditional Libertarianism in this regard because I cannot fathom a society like ours operating without some pooled revenue stream. It seems utopian to presume that an advanced society could thrive without some sort of collectively gathered funds. However, beyond utilizing our group tax dollars wisely for the general good of society I have no desire for the govt. to legislate any assistance for me.
This could easily become a treatise of extensive length on theory and philosophy but I am inclined to keep it short. Hopefully that will provoke more feedback and allow readers to make their own choices. As always, Your opinions are welcome in the Quarry.

Eat more Chicken
As a small business owner my social obligations are limited. I am responsible for providing a work environment that is conducive to growth. This ensures my employees can financially support their families and that I earn enough after taxes to give my family the means to live comfortably. Beyond that, my opinions on who utilizes my services are open for public support or disdain depending on the positions I espouse. Any consumer can make the choice to support my business or look elsewhere for the service we provide.
A corporate decision to close on Sunday’s or not cater to a certain population is my choice alone and the ramifications of that decision will yield specific economic results that do not impact anyone except our employees and myself. In light of the Chick-fil-A fiasco it is obvious that being outspoken on hot button issues can and will result in changes to the bottom line.
I offer this philosophical position. I choose to spend my money where and when I desire. No outside forces drive me to purchase anything if I do not approve of the seller. My customers are entitled to the same privilege. Therefore I have the right to offer any opinion I choose on any topic and the buying populace will make their choice.
The management team members at Chick-fil-A have the right to make any statement or corporate decision they choose and I have the right to spend my money elsewhere if I disagree. Our liberal media has advocated for an alternative position by lobbying legislative support that would negatively impact this organization’s ability to conduct business. This creates a negative environment for everyone. To extrapolate this would mean that over time the government, via the push from a particular faction, will be able to dictate what you buy and from whom. In the simplest terms that is un-American and over steps in dramatic fashion all aspects of free enterprise.
This furor, raised over a public position taken by a private entity, is unwarranted. Spend your money where you wish. Speak out publicly if that suits you but this is not a topic that should involve any government comment or action. When the state decides you should not purchase a chicken sandwich from a certain vendor they are only short steps away from deciding all aspects of your private life.
My position is not as an advocate of the statements made nor is it an indictment of anyone’s personal choice about what they buy. All must follow their individual convictions. Let the consumers dictate the punishment or edification of any corporation’s choice to verbalize controversial opinions.
If you don’t appreciate the statements made eat a burger.

Guns are people too.
Will the never ending philosophical ramblings regarding gun control ever cease? I think not.
The portion of the population that endorses government intervention into all areas of our society will be there right in line at the gun store when the reality touches home.
There will be a never ending parade of James Holmes's for us to disect after their apparently random acts are accomplished. Create all the legal blockades you please and these type of people will still attain their destructive goals. Most will not be stopped until after harm is rendered. Accept the reality that our criminal justice system is incapable, through no fault of their own, to uncover these plots before they are implemented.
When these events occur the arguement leaves the theorectical realm and enters our personal space. Amazing how the gun shops in a liberal state like CO. are now selling weapons like cotton candy at the state fair.Surprised? I'm not. How many lives would have been saved IF Mr Holmes was scared off by the knowledge of Batman fans carrying in that theatre? Or, if not dissuaded from his chosen path, possibly he could have been put down promptly like a rabid pitbull, saving countless suffering relatives and blameless victims alike. If one trained, legally entitled hand gun permit holder was attending that movie I surmise the outcome would have been far different.
Does shooting back lower your moral equivalant? What would Jesus do? I don't profess to know but since we are all guessing in this regard my hypothesis is as good as anyone's. Jesus would have shot first and asked questions later. Yes, just like Harry Callahan. It is morally unjust to stand by and let harm befall a defenseless person if you have the means to end it.
Accepting this moral reality is a huge factor in the gun control arguement. Are we that sheep-like that we wish for the goverment in some far off location, whose intentions are driven primarily by economics, to protect us, our families and random strangers for that matter? I am not.
"If everyone has guns then people will just be shooting each other in the streets" My reply to this stance is this.. No they won't. Humans are blessed with incredible instincts for self-preservation. If an area of your city is unsafe it is not because the people there have guns it is because there are some people there who don't. Personally I would feel much safer if everyone on my street had guns. The likelihood of shooting issues between neighbors is significantly more remote than the invasion of people who do not respect us knowing that the odds are we won't be armed.
Yes it is true shootings will increase, briefly, between people with poor inpulse control, however these numbers will be minute compared to the crimes that wont be committed and lives saved because the criminals will not know who has weapons and who doesn't.
Save the live in peace without guns rhetoric. I am not willing to accept the role of passive, trusting lemming who assumes the position and hopes the criminals leave my ass alone. Those days are over, if they were ever real to begin with. We have been inundated with stories of passive people who have been shot for nothing other than some dark personal fantasy. That end is not acceptable for me or those I care about. I'll obligate no man to protect me or hold them accountable for madmen or predators. Every man needs to be responsible for themselves.
Maybe that is the basis for this whole discussion. Who are you responsible for? I'm patiently waiting for the lefties to spin their intense pressure on the legislature to impend more law abiding citizens from acquiring protective weapons.
Someone could have stopped that maniac; case closed.
Speak up now lefties and tell us how it helps to keep guns from the citizenry.

White Lines
Double clutchin’ like a mother, Calvin punches the presets. “Last Child, Just a punk in the streets” explodes out of his speakers, hitting his rotten molars like hot grease on fire. If only, maybe, he knew what to say when he got there and how to say it. No matter how many miles, tears, rock anthems or hookers her body haunted his sleep. Ebony was not a black haired beauty with big dark eyes like Mr.Seger said but she was just fine for Calvin. Forged in the strip mined hills by a couple of eager kids in a rusted Ford Bronco; Ebony liked everyone a little bit but trusted no one. The diner’s beer lights glowed making her skin shine. She had all the drivers wishing for a double black refill even when their back teeth were floating. Maybe lucky for Calvin, or maybe not, he was the one she poured the sugar on. Not so sweet the country boy would run away, but just enough to churn honey from buttermilk.
Passing time and orange cones on the lonely interstates gave Calvin too much time to think. He wonders if maybe putting a ring on Ebony’s finger will fix the problems or just cause him more aggravation. When he gets back to town they will settle this thing; right or wrong, every story needs an ending. He hits Allentown like a tornado, only eight hours to go and they will be together again. He misses the passion her coal dark soul can create. Many nights with the wood stove turned down they shared the one lonely space left undiscovered. Memories, like frayed redundant blankets, are strewn about like Barbie’s doll clothes.
Phil Lynott belts out The Boys are Back, trying Calvin’s patience as he creeps through the night. The old nowhere turnpike is one surreal place to travel when you have somewhere else to be. The bug splattered windshield provides an opaque worldview just in time for the thunderhead to explode. Along with the rain came a sense of foreboding as he eased the Peterbilt down the drive. Patience he thought, little tricky working those curves with a full load and a muddy road.
Getting home was always a melancholy time. Calvin loved the road as much as he had ever loved anything. Knowing that was one of the reasons he wished Ebony would stay. You all know about the other reasons. No matter, when his feet hit the dirt it felt like chains. Never enough time to shorten the list of chores and obligations that went along with his run down double-wide. Especially now that he had a bunkmate; she wouldn’t let him slide on all that stuff like when he flew solo. He made extra sure his boots were left by the door and his wet clothes were not just flags on the kitchen chairs. That’s all he felt up to after the last run. He grabbed a High Life and turned on the ballgame. The Mudhen’s on local TV were an excellent distraction as he let his mind wander.
Since Ebony’s shift at the diner ended early she ran some errands. Hard to get much done at 1am in a one horse town but she always found a way. He never worried where she was when he was on the road but sure was a jealous man when he was home. Standing in the doorway, paper bags in hand, she could see his uncomfortable silhouette in the threadbare recliner. Quietly she placed all of her purchases in their rightful places and poured 3 fingers of rye to escape the night stalking memories that filled her sleep. Pacing as she drank she wondered if all of this was worth the hassle. Maybe it’s time to go your own way or was that just Fleetwood Mac on the radio. She sat on the worn sofa and thought about what might be.
After a time, undetermined when it rains, Cal wakes. He looks at Ebony, seeing clearly the tears that heartache brings. Closing his eyes again, knowing he hasn’t the courage to make a change.

latest winner!
This story took 1st place in the 100 words or less contest at the Boxing w/pencils website..
Enjoy!!
Silent,spent, single.. 12/14/11-1st place
Are you single? I thought. The honking and Elvis made it hard to formulate my game. It wasn’t that tough of a question but the lengthy hesitation was not helping my cause. Once the roar in my mind went silent I prepared my strategy. My scotch glazed eyes waited for her. Even a pathological liar will quiver in the face of spent desire. OK. I’m ready; I’ll just have a #3, no pickles, I mumbled as she skated away and my radio droned on.

Thoughts for the day..
It is rare that your humble blogster would ever capitulate to the fact that someone could rant more poignantly. However, after perusing the entry below a confession of " I couldn't have written it better myself" is warranted.
Plz comment if you agree..
War is the tool through which the remaining Constitutional restraints on government and rights of the people will be destroyed. War will be the gateway through which total statism in any of its forms (fascism, socialism, communism) will be imposed upon the United States. They will rally the people’s patriotism, and give the laws Orwellian sounding names like the “Patriot Acts”, and “Freedom Laws” and cries of “America First,” but these acts will be anti-patriotic, anti-freedom, and anti-American. At the core of all these activities will be one purpose –- to impose ever increasing control over the citizens, marching toward total statism. They will suspend due process and Constitutional restrictions proclaiming “extraordinary times” require extraordinary measures. At first they will only be used against a few select atrocious and most heinous individuals with unfamiliar appearance, customs and beliefs. Initially, it will simply be a matter of degree, but the precedent is now set. Extraordinary measures solely for extraordinary individuals, but slowly and then more rapidly the extraordinary will become the ordinary until such measures can apply to anyone. They will deride anyone who opposes these Orwellian acts as dangerously naïve, as pacifists, as isolationists, as unpatriotic, as sympathizing with “the enemy” whoever “the enemy” may be at the time, and as un-American. They will make war with vague, ever changing goals and objectives. They will make war on elusive, obscure enemies by proclaiming wars against “subversives” or “guerillas” or “militias” or “revolutionaries” or “aggressors” or “terrorists” or whatever ambiguous name they can imagine so that the “enemies” will always be elusive, never eliminated or fully defeated. There will always be more “enemies.” War will be perpetual, lasting years or even decades. War will be the final mechanism that destroys America from within; and the people will proudly cheer and defend and support the dismantling of their rights and destruction of their Constitutional Republic, all out of supposed “necessity” to support “the war.”

New Poetry
Give it a try-- "like" if you LIKE... Share if you can.. Thanks
Loquacious
Boomerang noises;
Walls share aperitifs
Loud as a mule
Rude as a clown.
Carpet over concrete
Muffles nothing.
Arrogance drenched
in olive oil
Echoes meals past;
Lights smoky
From verbal assaults
Add some pepper.
Flatware sings
Through the wash
Frame salacious hands
Car doors slam.
Empty bottles play
Melancholy music
Unlike laughter
Gather round kids
Sweaty uncles
Tell faraway tales
Stained ties match
Yellow dentures.
The red checker cloth
Has heard many lies
Smoke, wine and candor.
Salt shaker nods.
Loquacious
Boomerang noises;
Walls share aperitifs
Loud as a mule

random embellishments
just another short poem about world events.. intentions are purely comedic; I promise..Unless of course you take it all seriously.. either way.. have a great Tuesday!
Harold is a funny old man.
Stoic old white guy;
promising a rapture.
Hasn't Obama
already paid for this.
Debt ceiling too low.
Pull back the borders he says,
Arizona shouts no way.
Letting them all in
will corrupt America.
Anthony trial resumes.
Swing by the Quickstop.
Silent Bob speaks.
How great is a rapture
when we have all this
to watch down here?
Harold is a funny old man.
Stoic old white guy;
promising a rapture.
Hasn't Obama
already paid for this.
Debt ceiling too low.
Pull back the borders he says,
Arizona shouts no way.
Letting them all in
will corrupt America.
Anthony trial resumes.
Swing by the Quickstop.
Silent Bob speaks.
How great is a rapture
when we have all this
to watch down here?

New Poetry
This poem was just posted yesterday at Poetsview.com-- taking a stab at having some of those thoughts entered into a published collection.. as always feedback is appreciated.. have a great weekend everyone!
Masking Agent
Visions implode into colors
seeing clearly,first time today.
Never again will dusk escape
my sincere mind's gravity.
Pass the ashen chalkboard;
taking our turn to teach
Walk along this thorny path
Cherish my words, slow.
Worry, others will arrive.
Empty room, caffeine.
Leaving alone again.
Face the glow of night
Rolling my cigarette;
light it, sleep
Masking Agent
Visions implode into colors
seeing clearly,first time today.
Never again will dusk escape
my sincere mind's gravity.
Pass the ashen chalkboard;
taking our turn to teach
Walk along this thorny path
Cherish my words, slow.
Worry, others will arrive.
Empty room, caffeine.
Leaving alone again.
Face the glow of night
Rolling my cigarette;

Sunday, and then some...
Reckless abandon, loosely utilized phrase to describe any activity entered into carelessly or lacking forethought. Mandatory theme for today’s blog post.
Much like the economic situation of 2010- Obama is applying the philosophy of ‘Reckless abandon” last report there has been 4 bill spent on revitalization projects and essentially no jobs created. It seems to this humbled theorist that this would define reckless. Not sure who will be paying that back but it appears more than likely that your grandkids will be taxed more than you were.
Anyone for a diatribe on personal rights?.. Who better to rant than our revered Mr. Jefferson?
"On every question of construction [of the Constitution] let us carry
ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect
the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning
may be squeezed out of the text, or intended against it, conform to the
probable one in which it was passed."
The Authors of our treasured, uniquely American documents are right on the money. It is time to cease bastardizing, compromising, analyzing and urinating on the rights we are all entitled. The elephant in the room of course is personal accountability, our forefathers operated under the presumption that creating a self-sufficient, competent operating system would work hand in hand with a populace who all strive towards the same goals. Regrettably the financial entitlements we have “recklessly” approved have sapped the will, intelligence, work ethic and ethos of a rapidly growing segment of our society.
Life is not about what you have, It is all about what you dream. Sadly dreams have become credit card debt, foreclosures and personal bankruptcy without ramification. Solutions you ask?, With some serious humility I will offer a couple semi-literate options.
1. Everyone, without exception, who is receiving handouts of any kind must submit to, and pay for, a monthly drug screen.
2. Hand-outs will only be extended for a short period. If personal improvements are not forthcoming and the economic situation doesn’t change the state can assign work of their choosing to offset the expenditure.
3. Incentivize new businesses with tax abatements and reduced employment taxes and restrictions.
4. Nationalize medicine.. Not my first choice but since the portability act has now been passed this road will go only one way. We must embrace it and make it sensible to execute.
5. Expand SCORE,SBA to provide instruction for new business owners. Remove SBA administration from the banking community who loan for profit only, without vision.
Enough heavy quasi-political rambling, lets have some fun now.
We must have a TOP 5 in every post.. How about TOP TV COPS.. My list undoubtedly shows my age. Send in yours—Lets have some
1. Steve McGarrett
2. Sonny Crockett
3. McCloud
4. Kojak
5. Barnaby Jones
How soon will LiLo clean up her act if all future reports on her behavior went unpublished unless they are for exemplary behavior?
If I am subjected to one more true crime story on the TV I am addressing personal mail to the network execs begging for the return the Gosslin brood. (not really, just an exaggeration for comedic sake)
Did you hear the well plug worked? At least that’s done. Figured there should be as much good news as bad on the worst disaster ever.. (buying that still?)
Northern crew.. Kudos to the Twinkies best record in MLB since the break.. Can’t wait to see them in the playoffs.
Could “The Town” be the pic that finally allows Ben Affleck to compete with his buddy Damon?.. wait and see-the reviews have been very complementary thus far.
Time to wrap this up- “reckless” continued scribbling can result in boredom.
Have a super week.. Love the one your with. Remember they might be able to do better if you take them for granted. Value your time. For some you know it is shorter then others. Relish the challenges, trials and anxious moments; these make you strong. Lastly, captivate your audience with wisdom and sage advice instead of American Idol or Jersey Shore chatter..The world is overflowing with the inane, set yourself apart.
Till next post..

Tribute to Sunday- Hope everyone in the Quarry is enjoying their Sunday. Hotter than Hades down here in swampland but I’ll leaving the whining for the blizzard watchers in Feb.
Let’s jump quickly on the box of Tide today. Cogitate on this. Do all of the BP haters out there own a bike? Or use public transportation when available? OR just walk? Park those SUV’s and limit those trips to Target. Recognize this is exactly what we deserve. Our dependence on oil causes these catastrophes not big business. They only drill and take risks because we want them to and because they can make $$ doing it. Driving well armored tanks that run at 12 MPG is not a positive. Anyone for 9.00 a gallon gasoline? Just another angle to think about.
Always in groups of three—Rue, we will miss ya.. Most every woman I know loved Golden Girls. Gary Coleman- Another train wreck in the tabloids the last 20 years but he did crack us up as a youthful actor. Hope you will RIP as well.
John Wooden- The Wizard of Westwood... 11 NCAA championships. 99 years of selfless giving to help the sport and players you loved. The sports world owes you big time for all you have shared. Say hello to all the hoop players up there. I am certain they will welcome you with open arms.
Who can believe this dept.?
Joran arrested in Peru for suspected felonies? Field trips are safe again..Maybe? Hopefully they lock the bastard up this time.
Jersey Shore crew a “nest of herpes” ? never suspected, did you?
Al and Tipper are splitting up? Maybe Tipper was playing 2Live Crew too often..?
Now we can listen to what we want.
A rather benign topic but some serious issues behind the scenes.
Scripps spelling bee just ended. 3rd consecutive year an Indian-American won. Nothing remarkable or interesting about that. However, outside there were protesters.. American protesters… Who were complaining that English words are too difficult to spell and we need to dumb it down so that a higher % of our youth can spell correctly. One example cited was enough should be enuf.. Am I the only one who recognizes irony when it bites you in the backside? If we spelled every word like it sounded we could all have graduated after 2nd grade. How competent would we be as a nation if this were enacted? Crazy. Where do these idiots come from? Meanwhile the Indian-American kids are purposefully studying and learning in order to reach academic goals. We inaccurately conclude that the educational system is failing our children when in actuality it is unadulterated laziness. Teachers facilitate learning, parental involvement ensures positive results.
Someone please tell the Flyers before every series that they are down 2 games already. They may never lose again.
Kobe MAY go down as the greatest player ever 2 more rings and the argument will be over. The Jordan fans will have no choice but to concede.
One of the best Sunday morning songs ever—had to get this lyric out today.
Well I woke up Sunday morning,
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes,
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
An' I shaved my face and combed my hair,
An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.
Sunday Morning Coming Down-Kris Kristofferson
Lastly, in order to keep some sort of Political theme present amongst all the other ranting. Read this one twice—it is that solid…
"Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear -¬
kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervour ¬-
with the cry of grave national emergency.
Always, there has been some terrible evil at home,
or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up
if we did not blindly rally behind it."
-- General Douglas MacArthur
ALWAYS think for yourselves—NO SHEEP ALLOWED in the Quarry
Have a wonderful work week- keep the faith- we who continue the battle will win in the end. The looters will not claim our future promise or our current virtue.
On Monday. tell your boss you like his tie. Then on weds tell him your leaving early Friday. Bet he complies. If your boss is female insert skirt instead of tie. (EEO statement for the day) Then head for happy hour somewhere and live large. Stay safe and if you can’t do that just stay.. Thanks for being a part.

TGIS
Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games... Whoever doesn’t relish that riff on a Saturday afternoon is just bored!
The Quarry is back in session after an extended hiatus. Had some more lucrative endeavors that we occupying the later ego’s time and energies. As much as the Mac Stone persona is an existential slice of my soul the actual tax paying side of my duality is still required to accommodate for such mundane trivialities like food and lodging. Therefore working for cash is not optional.
Eventful several weeks. Appears that we will all be able to head down to the beach with a gas can, create a human chain and open our own refinery. All sarcasm aside, well maybe not all, we have the smartest scientists in the world working on this problem and 2 weeks later the pipe is still leaking? How hard can it be to put a lid on it? Not that we have a competent resolution to offer. These scenarios provide a large stash of rocks to throw and that’s why were here. If any talented physicists read this (highly unlikely) please call BP and help them out. Thanks.
Merry old England cannot bury their embarrassments easily. Sarah Ferguson. Yes, remember the hard partying redhead who made a joke of her Duchesshood (new word!) always wanted to create one... Anyway, she is under investigation for selling access to her former husband the Prince to an undercover newsman. Resorting to this scam to generate income would be a profitable adventure on our side of the Atlantic but over there they must be weeping in their tea about what to do with her. Send her our way; we love our wild and crazy redheads.
Excited in Beantown, Pierce ran his mouth, now it appears the mighty green will back it up. Confessions being good for the soul and all, mine is after the last 20 games of the regular season my bet was on the C’s losing in 2nd round. Not a good year for my picks.
Except for the Rays of course, 5 games up on Yankees- loving every minute of that.
From the It Is About Time file-- Floyd Landis confesses to using PED’s.. Wow, such revelatory disclosures. Taking the team with him over the cliff would have been expected; just amazed it took him so long.
Congrats Jordan Romero 6 of 7 highest peaks- One to go... 13 years old. What an accomplishment... I am in awe of this goal. At 13 all I was looking for was enough money to acquire more record albums and a date for 8th grade dance.
Quick grab the camera!! Just saw Rashard Lewis’s jumpshot hiding behind a dumpster at the 7-11. Think there was some type of cape involved also.. Those homeless magicians are so entertaining.
Quiz time..
Identify the stage names by their real name quiz…
We give you birth names you identify the celeb...
All 5 correct answers will win you absolutely nothing so save your hopes in a jar for another time. But right answers will grant you an overwhelming boost in self confidence. The best byproduct of vacuous trivia knowledge as far as we can tell..So think hard, no cheating.

If you guess them all send me a note..
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Hug your kids today because tomorrow they will tell you that’s for babies! Then wait till you’re in front of all their friends and plant one on their cheek just to watch them blush.. They deserve that for not picking up their rooms.

When will Friday be here?
Since throwing stones in the quarry is the activity we like best it is imperative to take one for the team on this day. Our fearless bi-racial leader, whom has often been vilified in the quarry, has executed an above average strategy. As often as his decisions have been questioned we must in return commend the decision to reallocate 30 billion of the relief funds, which had been targeted for large businesses, to the small business sector. This maneuver from a tactical standpoint will serve him well in the polls but, more importantly, will do more to generate economic recovery than anything else we have seen in the past 16 months. The frozen credit markets for small business is the culprit in the longevity of the malaise we all feel. Never think that the quarry is a biased or callused arena. Simply call them like we see them. Equal opportunity bombast. On this day kudos are due Mr. O.
My Mea Culpa IS in the rear view mirror now so let’s move on to some interesting news.
Lawrence Taylor- Not only is he an idiot, which was semi obvious to anyone who follows sports, now it appears he is a felon as well. Sad story. This topic typically would not be quarry worthy, other than the legal wrangling, which is proving to be quite entertaining. Even though LT confessed post arrest his lawyer is now claiming he doesn’t even know who the girl is? We shall see how this scenario plays out. Not sure he has Big Ben’s money to make this go away. With a minor involved this may get ugly.
Bret is out of the hospital—Glad to here your up and about, let’s rev up the bus again soon!
Vanessa Carleton- Remember her? She was hit by a car while jogging. A rather dangerous way to make the rags. Better off just over indulging on Slimfast or sleeping with Jesse James. Do you think this errant motor vehicle operator has been stalking her since 2002 and has “A Thousand Miles” stuck in his head so bad he felt a societal obligation to end our consternation? Not being enamored with the song is one thing, but this was extreme.
SATIRE ALERT
Lord Jesus Christ- 50 year old Belchertown MA man was struck by car on Thursday. Not sure why that is funny, it just is. Maybe because adopting that name inspires such a diverse breadth of emotions in each of us. Or, maybe, because irony, even in a sometimes twisted way, is always funny. You have to figure Karma played a role in this somehow.
SATIRE ABORTED
Last observance this week- University students in Europe, as part of a world-wide competition, have created a vehicle that achieved 11000 MPG. Yes you read that accurately, 11000 MPG. Of course the rules of what constitutes a vehicle, test course, procedures etc. are not applicable to our roadways today. Yet, they did place a human being in a vehicle and manage to travel that far during their simulation. Asking all the quarry patrons now, Cant we create a gas/electric hybrid that could do half the results? Say 300-500 mpg? This economic monstrosity that has caused so many wars, cost so many lives and ruins the environment must be eradicated in the next couple generations. So come on kids, create one of those cars we can utilize! Let’s give the ocean and tundra back to the animals that live there.

Top baby names for 2009
Girls- Isabella,Emma,Olivia,Sophia,Ava
Boys- Jacob,Ethan,Michael,Alexander,William
Fastest rising name—Cullen—Apparently the ubiquitous impact of “Twilight” is becoming evident.
Have a fantastic week. Tell someone you haven’t spoken to in a while how much you appreciate them. Then stand back and chuckle at the look on their face. Keep laughing. Life is far too short to passively wait on miracles to find us so create one your self.

Monday, news you should know
This week’s post has a public service theme. Found several interesting topics swimming amongst the superfluous plasma we call headline news.
Since simple medical services are accessible in this country for most everyone who can walk into a clinic we have not put much thought into dehydration remedies. Thank you Bangladesh, They have invented homemade Gatorade. A quart of water, pinch of salt handful of sugar is all it takes. Next time you have bouts of “distress” with your stomach give this recipe a go. Much more healthy than pharmaceuticals and cheaper too. I know, way off the beaten path for the typical rants you experience in the Quarry but sometimes we need to change things up!
Staying on this topic. Did you notice the Yogi in India who has not eaten or drank anything for 70 years? At first glance my hyper cynical scientific evaluation was crackpot. However, the doctors who are studying this gentleman (I wont spell his name out because none of us could pronounce it anyway) have been observing for the last 7 days and the Yogi has not eaten, drank or used the bathroom during that period. How can that be? Either the testing facility is in on a well designed hoax or we are witness to a fascinating medical breakthrough. A few more days should prove evidentiary.
Now we should be back on track with some zealous diatribes aching for a voice.
Jan Brewer is a genius. For those outside the know, she is the Gov. of AZ. You remember the completely irrelevant piece of desert to the east of California. Not anymore. Ms Brewer has implemented one of the most courageous laws we have seen in many years. Immigration is rock on which this country was built but the illegal visitors have got to go. The economic ramifications are too numerous to mention, however the biggest monster in the closet we all must recognize is the impact of the healthcare bill. Mandated services for all will result in a liability our great grand kids will be unable to pay. Adding illegal aliens to the mix, who do not pay for their own coverage, will allow for an even higher debt. A quarry commendation is warranted for you Gov. Brewer for your foresight and bold stance
Only the marginally sane in Colorado could squander tax funds with a Commission for Extraterrestrial Affairs. Certainly the good people of the state will rise up and ridicule this nonsense into embarrassing oblivion. Think maybe there just might be more productive uses for this currency?
Justin Beiber- Mrs. Stone made me aware of a painful factoid this morning. Beiber fever is insidiously sadistic. His new album is #1. The catastrophic reality of our pop culture is tumor inducing. Maybe it is harmless pop music written for 14 year old girls but there isn’t anything else that can sell more copies? Suburban parents shelling out hard earned cash for this drivel is may require a 30 day detox .
As of this writing Rays 17-7- Twins 15-9- This appears to remain a race that will bear watching and of course, some quarry wagers if only for the right to crow about it!
Lakers/Cavs Final That will be Epic. Called that 2 months ago. Thunder gave my prognostications a scare but this final is destiny. Lebron will get his ring in a 7 game war for the ages.
Bret will be back, better than ever. Quarry altered advice; get back to chasing bar trash on the bus. Celeb Apprentice is too lame for the last of the hair band icons.
Steve Carrell- Michael Scott is one of the funniest characters on TV. The role is timeless and will go down in Sitcom history in the top ten. That being said, Steve is contemplating leaving the show next season. Big mistake. So many have tried and so few succeed in transferring their talent to other mediums. Stick with what you do best. Ride this horse till it drops and the cancellation vet walks in with the black bag.
Observed a panhandler the other day that was actually dropped off at the corner of a busy intersection by automobile. Left me with some curious musings His sign read four kids to feed. Wouldn’t it have been much wiser to stand close to home? Gasoline is not free. This same gentleman was also consuming a purchased caffeinated beverage from a vending machine. Isn’t water still available without cost (or very low cost) from most everywhere? Just sayin’ One day when more time and space is available a quarry based solution will be made public for this impractical behavior. Until then speculate at will on how to rid our society of freeloaders.
Only 4 days till Friday. Hang in there! Share a smile today, Pass that joke on. We can all use some levity on a Monday. Until next post be safe, happy and consistently mellow. If you cant keep cool don’t unload on anyone who signs your check.

This Must be Saturday.
It must be Saturday
Greetings to all in the Quarry today.
We need to get right to it today. Medicare analysts have submitted their annual report to The White House and the results are fascinating. They have determined that the cost of the new healthcare plan will place an ever increasing economic burden on the economy. Doesn’t that differ from the estimated billions in savings we were all promised with the healthcare bill? Maybe we should be shocked, but if we are does that mean we were naïve in the first place to think our esteemed leadership would pass a bill that would cost us more money? Just sayin’
Welcome to Utah. Ronnie Gardner, 49, will be executed soon. Western style. Good old fashioned firing squad. The amusing part is: This was his choice. Utah allows death row inmates to choose their manner of execution. Gotta love that. You provide the lifetime of entrees that are not healthy for society and Utah provides the desert cart.
RIP Hair Band #1- From the files of never going away predictions- Poison lead singer Bret Michaels was rushed to the hospital with a brain hemorrhage. Get well soon Bret. Celebrity Apprentice, Rock of Love season 18 and every other reality show will never be the same without you. No bad wishes for Mr. Bret, just a side swipe at the professional choices of late. We all know he will back and acting again soon. Because that is what we all want right? right?
Lindsay Lohan- where will she land next. My Guess season 7 of celebrity rehab. Is there even one producer in Hollywood that would let her read, let alone give her a role right now? She has been reduced to stealing watches to make the fish wrap. Unbelievable yet not that unpredictable.
Be glad we have the medical technology we do her in America. Saw on Fox news that in Cambodia the doctors (term used loosely) utilize cow urine as a treatment. Visualize this scene in your head. Swollen foot from a twisted ankle. You head to the redi clinic in your neighborhood Walgreens and the recommendation is you soak your foot in cow urine. Now sit back, take a deep breathe and vehemently complain about the costs of medical care in America. Done? Somehow much of the passionate vitriol has evaporated.
Medical use of Psilocybin for cancer patients is winning converts. Timothy Leary and Ken Kesey may have been onto something after all. In a controlled environment Psychedelics have demonstrated effective relief for many of the psychological traumas that are associated with severe cancer protocols. Patients in the studies claimed to feel much more productive, confident and ready to face their harsh treatment regimen after a single dose. Amazing, Knowledge that the ancient Indian tribes took for granted is now being investigated by the scientific minds of today. Ethnocentrism in its truest form.
How about them Rays? Early with many miles to go but how them Twins looking? Still looking at some possible wagering from the Up North contingent? At the very least, speak up to claim some bragging rights. Climb out on the skinny branch and state your case!
Lastly, My Cowboys moved up in draft to obtain Dez Bryant. So long Roy Williams. You cost use 74,345.00 per catch (nonscientific calculation) for 2 seasons. Time to end that failed experiment. Of Course Mr. Bryant arrives with his own baggage. We shall see, could be the best move up we have seen on day one in a while or another waste of $$
Enjoy your Saturday. Tell your neighbor’s hello, even the ones who park wrecks in their yard and walk their dogs in your yard! (Oh yeah, that’s my neighbors) anyway. Care for someone who needs it today even if they act like they don’t. Appreciate what you have and forget about what you have not. Thanks for being a part of the solution.

Random Weekend Thoughts
Welcome to the weekend! Rather bleak on the news front this week unless you are flying anywhere near Iceland. If you are thereabouts you will be spending some time washing the soot out of your hair. Good to know the volcano over there is as agitated as the rest of the world is with that bankrupt speck of an island.
Thinking it may be time to add some more polls into the quarry. Assuming everybody watches something other than American Idol may be wildly unfounded but let’s try anyway.
TOP 5 Sitcoms of all-time.
1. All in the Family
2. Seinfeld
3. The Office
4. MASH
5. Sanford and Son
Honorable mentions go to Frazier, Cheers, Sunny in Philly and The Jefferson’s
This list does not included animated shows. If so, the Simpsons and South Park would have been considered.
Weigh in with your picks. Let’s generate some lively debate over nothing important. No better way to expend our valuable time on the weekend!
Couple of more serious issues for those who prefer less frivolous utilization of your valuable time.
So long Eric Massa. Your resignation was long over due. Your misuse of public confidence and pathologically contemptible behavior is to be condemned. This is not who we need managing our great country.
3 from the Who Knew dept?
Ricky Martin NEEDED to come out?
Steven Seagal was that desperate?
Goldman Sachs was raping and pillaging through backroom deals while taking TARP funds?
Funny, like a Tarantino movie…
19 year old at MI State Univ. is arrested for possession of 79 thongs he had stolen from coed dorm rooms. Crazy kook in waiting or Frat Hero? You make the call.
Lastly, progressive fundamentalists nationwide are advocating “Faith diets” What a revelation! If you think, meditate, even pray instead of shoving Twinkies down your talking hole you will lose weight. Amazing.. You read it here first. Slowing down your consumption contributes to weight loss. Bet you didn’t know the Quarry would be such a source of competent medical advice. Just an extemporaneous reward for the loyal fans.
Soapbox warning:
Just had to SHOUT this quote.

under the shield of law and in the name of justice."

For the thinkers out there, we must band together and return to fiscal, political and ethical relevance on a daily basis. For the Doers among us your actions must manifest themselves in fruitful endeavors aligned with those same principles. Our country, our children’s future and our lives depend on this.
OK. Soapbox removed:
To the Way Up North Crew- who will have a better season Twins or Rays? Let us hear your extravangantly researched rationale so we may argue over ridiculously immaterial stats. I’m saying Rays.
Have a super weekend. Treat yourself to something nice today. Have an ice cream; Take a walk in the park. Think wonderful thoughts and they will come true.
Out till next time...
Thinking it may be time to add some more polls into the quarry. Assuming everybody watches something other than American Idol may be wildly unfounded but let’s try anyway.

Welcome back Mr. Saturday night
A busy week in the quarry. May be impossible to narrow down the abundance of ridiculous to a menagerie that will be worthy of review. Anyway, here are the highlights or, as it is. lowlights. You decide.
Papal letter uncovered. From 1985, yes 1985, by even my distorted mathematical skills is an aged document. Not that we should be shocked, the brain trust in Rome had decided to cover-up the misdirected affections of a pedophilic priest for the sake of the overall church’s edification. Yes for real… Thought it best NOT to defrock a pedophile. Let that settle into the gray matter for a sec. Because that’s not all. This year that same group of intellectual degenerates drafted a Layman’s Guide with the topic being procedures to follow in the event of allegations pertaining to pastoral interventions of the sordid variety. Really, did you catch that? They now have a journal of instructions to follow IF there are allegations within the parish. Wouldn’t all of us in the quarry concur that a written guide is redundant? Maybe just remove the sadistic practitioner and apply all possible human effort towards assisting the children to mature without exposure to those distorted perverts? What are your thoughts?
Approval rating for Obama. Recent polls indicate, at best, fifty percent of the country feels the administration is doing the right thing with the economy. Torrential ambivalence is raining down on us all. Where are all the die hard TV viewers who came off their sofas in droves to proclaim the incredible forthcoming success of “change for America”. Possibly they had some ambitious plans to go locate a job the day the polls were matriculated. Sadly nothing out there worthy of their available skill sets sent them back to the game shows, soaps and chastising the advice of Dr Phil. Washington will extend unemployment benefits for them another 6 months. No worries.
For my far northern fans I would be negligent had we not discussed the recent litigation regarding the combative Lakota’s. For anyone interested, we can begin a UND mascot naming contest now. My choice “Frozen Snowbunnies” has an unmatched ferocity and will be tough to beat. Feel free to weigh in with your choices however no promises the judging will be unbiased.
In the Daring vs. Stupid category. Masticating sushi at an Asian buffet. Assuming it was created sometime in 2010 one can hope that intestinal parasites will be avoided. Won’t do that again, regardless of any wagered incentive. Once is lucky, twice is idiotic.
Goodbye to the legend we all remember; Malcolm McLaren
Many despised Punk rock, the by product of the industrial malaise of central England in the late 70’s. However, loved or hated, the psychotic cacophony will live forever. No true music aficionado can deny the impact that short but intense period had on the American music scene for many years to follow. Some ridiculed Malcolm as a materialistic racketeer and some revered what he created. Either way, he was a polarizing and recognizable contributor to a genre that will live forever whenever and wherever there are youth, guitars and idle time. Three chords, angst and anger are all it took to create the legacy.
RIP Malcolm.
Liz to wed. Listen up # 9. We hope you treat our version of royalty with the respect she deserves. If we determine otherwise we will hang you in effigy from the National Enquirer building. Please take extremely good care of our priceless legend or we will be forced to utilize more cover shots of Jen Aniston which has already approached morbid redundancy. The public outcry will be disastrous for sales.
Hope for a successful November and all months in between. Remember what Sweaty Teddy said “Rather have a dead offender than a repeat offender” Take care of yourselves and your fellow man. Create an aura for good and fill the souls of those around you. Enjoy your weekend.

Big Bad Monday
Monday night in the Quarry. Smoe strange goings on this week. goings on.. what is that? must have reverted to coal mine english.
Our dear friends in Pakistan are not only harboring and abetting the Taliban but now they have raised the stakes and sent a bomber to our consulate that detonated killing several and wounding others. Great news. Seems like their gratitude for our economic assistance for the last gazitrilbillion years (that equals many) has been running dry.Maybe it is time to let them all just fend for themselves? See how many of each tribe they kill off before deciding to take a break for a century or so. Then we can send them some aid ATW. That stands for after the wackos.
Khloe- you know the big K- Has now resorted to flashing her generous gifts at paparazzi.. Lamar, what were you thinking.. you let her leave the remainder of her wardrobe intact? You know better than that, she wont get any mileage out of that stunt. next step will be season 2 Jersey Shore. or better yet. nanny for the Wild sisters. That will get you back on the covers of those ultra serious news magazines.
Tiger vs. Jesse James. Anybody else feeling there maybe a bit of hypocrisy related to the coverage of these two. Very similar in action and the media has done a complete 180 degree turn. Not fair. Jesse went to rehab too. He should be absolved, hold a presser and go back to building bikes. But no.. not so fast Mr Tattoo boy. You will stand accused and may never get your starlet wife back even though you were so very sorry. Didn't he just feel "entitled" also? C'mon it's a disease right?
Go Bulldogs- It would be such a fantastic year if they can finish off the Dukies tonight. What a story. 2nd place just won't feel right for this team with what they did to get here.
From the super weird dept. Long lost boyfriend of Olivia Newton John-- who dissappreared off a boat 9-- yes I said 9 years ago has re-surfaced alive and well. Wow, how bad was it living with her? had to fake his death? that could be called extreme.. Or it could be something as simple as taxes but that sure was not as much fun to think about.
Check out www.weirdyear.com on Tuesday- My short story--is the front page. Put this at the end of the post so it wouldnt be too boastful.
Take care of yourself and remember you are always better off than the next guy if you truly believe you are. Stay in tune with your body and your mind and listen to the subtle signs that say, get off the sofa and into the quarry!

Friday - a gray one- not quite black
Over a week since last post. All of us in the quarry need to throw some rocks.
Due to my negligence there is much to cover.
Nancy Pelosi causes flashbacks of "A Clockwork Orange". Can't turn my head from the screen. Feel like Malcolm McDowell and will present nausea symptoms when she comes on the TV. When can we bring back a large whitehaired lovable hack like Tip O'Neill?
Last comments on the demise of my beloved Orange. Many of my sport junkie compadres claim that coach should go. My plan is keep him recruiting, he is a master. Pass the game prep to Hopkins and see if he can avoid these let downs. We bring a top 20 team to the tourny every year and seem to underachieve. Not right to beat anyone up now during the "day after" humiliation but maybe we can tweak our responsibilities to reach the hallowed title again. Feels like a drive-in date and we only held hands.
From all reports we are all about to lose a treasured icon. Since Rebel Without a Cause in 1955 Dennis Hopper has led us on a path of deeply personal discovery. His roles have been diverse, creative and always powerful. In some cases he carried a lousy script on his personality alone. Prostate cancer is currently giving him a nasty ride.I for one will always remember "Blue Velvet" and Easy Rider". His legacy in film was dynamic. All the best Dennis!! get well soon. When the time does come the standard line "you will be missed" seems woefully inadequate.
From Ludicrous Rd.-- Islamic judges have ruled it illegal to post any comments relative to their policy of amputation on social internet sites. At the very least they should legislate tongue removal for such egregious acts. In fact we should all go onto FB and start a forum group on amputation. Of Course, per the clerics this will not just result in corporal punishment but likely hurt our chances for eternal rewards with virgins and such.. Oh Well..
Have a super weekend. Remember life is too short to have enemies.Laugh at least twice today. First one doesn't count. Curiosity didn't kill Tom but it sure made Jerry pissed off.
